Deaf And Blind Dog Training

We owe it to our dogs to teach them how to behave, and that the world isn't a scary place. A dog with special needs is no exception.

Training a dog that is both blind and deaf can come with its own challenges, but at the end of the day training is a rewarding experience for both dog and handler. We recommend the use of touch and tactile cues to communicate with your deafblind dog.

Below you will find training tutorials for working with your dog using touch cues and positive reinforcement.

Reward markers can be a useful training tool, similar to using a clicker or "Yes!" with a dog that can hear. They can help to train behaviors by marking the exact moment the dog exhibits a desired behavior.

Before you begin teaching your blind and deaf dog to "stay," it's a good idea to already have a reliable "sit" or "down." This is an important command that can literally save your dog's life. Click the button below to begin the tutorial.
